SPRINGFIELD – Richard “Mickey” J. Douglas, 87, passed away on June 30, 2017 at Wingate at East Longmeadow. Born in Springfield, MA on June 5, 1930, he was the son of the late William and Rena (Larro) Douglas. He had worked for many years as dock worker for R M Sullivan’s before retiring in 1992. He enjoyed playing cards, the lottery, and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Cecile J. (Samson) Douglas who passed away in June, 2015 and his son Michael Douglas, who passed away in October, 2010, he leaves his sons Ronald Douglas and his partner Debbie of Chicopee, Steven Douglas and his fiancée Cheryl of Chicopee and Glen Douglas and his wife Dianne of East Longmeadow; daughters Laura Minie and her husband John of Ludlow and Ruth Hartling and her husband Glenn of Springfield; daughter-in-law Valorie Douglas of East Longmeadow; grandchildren Marisa, Lindsay, Brian, Staff Sergeant Christopher, Andrea, Haley, Jacob, Michael, Rachel and Jack; great grandsons Anthony, Nicholas, Tatum and Jaxon; sister Bernice Vautrain; sister-in-law Sister Claudette Samson and brother-in-law Maurice Samson and his wife Cecile. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 4-7 PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow, MA. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 8:30 AM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Boston Road, Springfield, MA. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Saint Joseph, 577 Carew St., Springfield MA 01104.
