Mark Edward Cocchi

SPRINGFIELD- Mark Edward Cocchi, 68, devoted husband of 42 years to Marian E. (Doyle) Cocchi, Ascended into the Journey of Everlasting Life, on April 21, 2017. Born in Springfield on April 30, 1948, Mark was the son of the late Peter Cocchi Jr. and Catherine (Atanasoff) Cocchi. A lifelong resident of Springfield, he retired in 2011 after 40 years of dedicated service with the Springfield Police Department. Much of his career was spent in the Traffic Bureau, first in the motorcycle unit and finally as the Traffic Bureau Liaison at Springfield District Court. He was a member of the Italian Police Officer’s Association, Massachusetts Police Association, and B.P.O. Elks Lodge # 61; a member of the Army Reserves;  and  a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, Springfield.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving family:  a son and his wife, Dr. Michael N.  and Kate Cocchi of Dedham, MA; a daughter and her husband, Jill and Bryan Tredo of Belchertown, MA; two sisters, Cynthia and her husband Joseph LaFlamme, and Joanne and her husband James Ferrera, all of Springfield; 6 grandchildren (Ella and Lulu Cocchi, and Sawyer, Tobin, Grace and Claire Tredo); his mother in law, Mary J. Doyle (“Nana”) of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. His funeral services will begin at 8:45AM on Tuesday April 25th, 2017 in the Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, followed by a 10:00AM Liturgy of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut St., Springfield. His burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, on Tinkham Rd, Springfield. Calling hours will take place from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday April 24, 2017 in the funeral home.
