Hope W Guernsey

November 20, 1917 ~ March 17, 2017 (age 99) 99 Years Old
Hope W. Guernsey, 99, died peacefully on Friday, March 17, at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow. Born in Greater Boston to Jasper and Henrietta (MacQueen) Whitehouse on November 20, 1917, Hope moved with her family to Longmeadow as a toddler. She attended Longmeadow schools, graduated from high school in Springfield, and attended Stoneleigh College in Rye, New Hampshire. A striking redhead, she was the cover photo as a bride on the “True Story” magazine in 1939, was a model for a “Breck Girl” painting for the John H. Breck Company of shampoo fame, and was “Miss Symphony” at a gala ball at the Springfield Symphony in 1957. During her child-rearing years, she was a stay-at-home mom devoted to her son and daughter. In later years, she worked part time in several retail stores, including the Hall Galleries of Steiger’s, and was also involved in the formative days of the Longmeadow Council on Aging. Predeceased by her parents and two sisters, Dorothy Cronin and Joan Clark, and her former husband, she leaves to cherish her memory her son Peter W. Guernsey and his wife, Joanne; her beloved daughter, Joan Guernsey; three grandchildren, Erin, Deanna, and Daniel R. Hanson; and two great-grandsons, Grayson Illouz and Adrian Hanson. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the Jewish Nursing Home for their kindness to Hope and her family. There are no calling hours and burial is at the convenience of the family. Forastiere Smith Funeral and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements. www.forastiere.com.
