Matteo Maida

Matteo Maida, 82, devoted husband of 55 years to Francesca (Fazio) Maida, Ascended Into the Journey of Everlasting Life, on Saturday January 27, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 25, 1935 in Pianopoli, Province of Calabria, Italy, Matteo was a son of the late Agostino and Rosina (Madia) Maida. Matteo was a 30 year employee of American Saw, East Longmeadow, Massachusetts; retiring in 1997. He was a communicant of Holy Name Parish, Springfield, Massachusetts. Matteo enjoyed his garden, making homemade wine, and many varieties of Italian meats. His family was most important to him; and they will miss him. Besides his wife, Matteo is survived by his 3 daughters and 2 sons- in-law, Rosemary and Mark Matheny of Greenland, NH, Rita Maida of Springfield, MA, Pina and Scott McCarthy of Somers, CT; a son and daughter-in-law, Agostino “Gus” and Cheryl Maida of Enfield, CT; a sister and brother-in-law, Maria and Joseph Servidone of East Longmeadow, MA, a brother and sister-in-law, Angelo and Julie Maida of Harrison, NY; a sister-in-law, Angela Maida of Herkimer, NY; 7 grandchildren, David Falconer and wife Connie of East Longmeadow, MA, Rachel Falconer of Lynn, MA, Sarah Falconer of Springfield, MA, Maxwell Matheny, Gabriella Matheny both of Greenland, NH, Miranda McCarthy of Somers, CT; Elena Watts and her husband Justin, and great granddaughter Addison Watts, all of Coffeyville, Kansas. Matteo also leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Frank Maida; and his daughter-in-law, Filomena T. (Scala) Maida.
His funeral will begin at 8:45 AM on Saturday (February 3, 2018) from the Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, MA, (413) 525-2800; a Liturgy of Christian Burial will then take place at 10:00AM in Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson Street, Springfield, MA. Matteo will be laid to rest in St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA. Visiting hours for family and friends will be from 4:00PM – 7:00PM on Friday (February 2, 2018) in the funeral home.
