Joanne I. Guernsey

Joanne Dale Isaacson Guernsey of Longmeadow passed away June 28, 2017 at BayState Medical Center. Born in Waltham, MA on February 21, 1945, she was the only child of Ruth Buswell Isaacson and Clarence Isaacson. She was a 1963 graduate of Waltham High School, and earned a degree with honors from the University of Massachusetts/ Amherst in Journalism in 1967. After working as an editor of the former Springfield Herald for five years she began her 34-year career at Bay Path University as director of publications and advertising, retiring in 2007. She leaves her husband of 42 years, Peter W. Guernsey of Longmeadow, a retired Longmeadow firefighter. Upon retirement, Joanne found respite among her childhood friends and neighbors at her family summer home, Lakholm, on Franklin Pierce Lake in Hillsboro, NH. Countless lazy afternoons playing Mexican Train Dominos with her friends made each day memorable for Joanne.
Joanne was a 1954 “Polio Pioneer” in a trial of the new vaccine. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening and photography. There was never a print article that escaped her red pen or a crossword puzzle that was a challenge. She was a caring, wise, gentle and talented lady, loved and admired by all who knew her. Her passing is a great loss. There will be no calling hours. There will be a graveside service at the Longmeadow Cemetery on Wednesday, July 12th at 1:30 PM. Appreciation is extended to Care One Redstone in East Longmeadow and to BayState Medical Center for the care and kindnesses given Joanne. Those who wish may make contributions to Bay Path University in her memory. Forastiere Smith Funeral and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
