Southwick – William R. Tynan, 87, of Southwick, passed away Tuesday November 7th at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Rockville Centre, NY, to the late William and Lillian (Wade) Tynan, he was raised in Roosevelt, NY and graduated from Hempstead High School. Bill worked for Doubleday for 27 years, advancing from the mailroom in Garden City, NY as a teenager to become Director of Marketing for the Doubleday Book Club in New York City. Bill and his family moved to Glastonbury, CT in 1974. He was President of the Book Division of Xerox Education Publications in Middlefield, CT until his retirement. Most recently he lived in Southwick with his loving wife of 65 years, Carol (Wilson) Tynan. Bill was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Westfield and had a vibrant personality, making people smile by telling his jokes, regaling the nurses at Baystate Hospital with his repertoire right up until the end. He also enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid golfer over the years. Besides his wife Carol, he is survived by his three children, Steve Tynan and his wife Lois of North Hampton, New Hampshire, Nancy Lillie of Boulder, Colorado, and Doug Tynan and his wife Kimberly of Windsor, Connecticut; his sister, Joyce Stallings of Newberg, Oregon; five beloved grandchildren, Christopher Tynan and his wife Amber, Elyse Tynan, Mark Lillie, Jamie Tynan and Bryce Tynan; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Ward and Brody Tynan and by many nieces and nephews who all loved “Uncle Billy”. He was predeceased by his brothers Wilbur, Charles, Clifford and James and his sisters Gertrude Michelfelder, Ethel and Grace Bennett. Family and friends are invited to meet for calling hours on Sunday November 12th from 2 – 5 PM at the Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick. Bill’s funeral service will be held on Monday November 13th at 11 AM at the First Congregational Church, 18 Broad St., Westfield. Burial will be on Tuesday November 14th at 12 noon in Central Cemetery in Rye, New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the First Congregational Church, 18 Broad St., Westfield, MA 01085.
