Obituary

On July 5, 2020 William Vincent Hoye, age 87, was called home to his Lord and Saviour. Mr. Hoye was preceded in death by his mother Ruth H. Neidel and father Warren F. Hoye, and his sister Cynthia Hoye Neumann. Born on June 30, 1933 in Springfield, Mass, Mr. Hoye passed peacefully at his home in Ft. Mill, SC having celebrated his birthday four days prior with all of his family around him.

Mr. Hoye attended Agawam High School, where he started at left guard on the football team that brought national fame to Agawam when they won the Peanut Bowl in Columbus, GA in 1952. After graduation from high school he went on to serve in the US Army during the Korean War, working in Logistics in Frankfurt, Germany. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Following honorable discharge, Mr. Hoye returned to Springfield, MA as co-owner and Treasurer of Warren F. Hoye Inc, a building materials distribution company.

During his twenties, Bill Hoye joined the University of Massachusetts Campus Crusade for Christ and viewed his greatest accomplishment in life was bringing hundreds of people the good news of eternal life through Christ Jesus. Throughout his life, Bill Hoye exemplified living life to glorify God. He later served in several capacities at Somers Baptist Church, Somers CT.

On February 2, 1974 Mr. Hoye married the love of his life, Marilyn Caldbeck and had two sons, Michael and David. The family expanded to include Bill’s two sons from a previous marriage, Jeffrey and Douglas. Bill adored Marilyn and never lost the twinkle in his eye when she entered the room. He was extremely proud of each of his sons, loved his daughters-in-law and cherished his five grandchildren. Throughout his life, Bill’s greatest joy was his family. He travelled with Marilyn and his sons around the country and around the world.

Bill enjoyed golf and fervently supported UConn womens’ basketball, the Patriots and Red Sox. His excellent memory and gift of storytelling assured that every family gathering was filled with laughter. William V. Hoye leaves a legacy of faith, love and cherished family times.

Mr. Hoye is survived by his wife Marilyn, his sons, daughters-in-law Alison (David), Catharine (Michael) and Carrie (Jeffrey), granddaughters Ayla and Lexi, grandsons Josh, Ben and Zach. A military burial at Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery will be held on July 17th in Agawam. Assisting the family is Colonial Forastiere Family Funeral Home, Agawam. www.forastiere.com
