Springfield - Vincent "Jimmy" Commisso, 80, passed away on Sunday August 29, 2021 at Baystate Medical Center.  Jimmy was born in Springfield on April 20, 1941, the son of the late Natali and Maria Luigina (Minnella) Commisso.  He attended Springfield schools, and following graduation, was drafted into the US Army, serving overseas.  He was employed by Smith & Wesson for 30 years retiring in 2001. Jimmy loved to socialize and play cards, and was a member of the East Longmeadow Knights of Columbus, Italian American Veterans, and Springfield Elks Lodge 61. He was very active throughout his life and played and coached in the Western Mass Touch Football League for over 20 years.  He never missed a chance to golf, worked on his garden every summer, enjoyed winemaking with his cousins, and making pasta and sauce for his beloved family. He looked forward to family summer vacations at the beach and on a number of occasions, travelled to his parents' hometown of Siderno, in the Calabria region of Italy.  His last trip to Italy was a very special memory, as he had the opportunity to be accompanied by his son, Vinny. Besides his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by his sister, Lena Commisso, and sister-in-law Dixie Driscoll.  He will be dearly missed by "his Mary", the love of his life and wife, Mary (Driscoll) Commisso; son Vincent M. Commisso; granddaughter Ava Commisso; brothers-in-law William Driscoll (Marilyn) and James Driscoll; nephew Derrick Driscoll (Amy) and their children Maya, Josh, and Ally; niece Darbie Driscoll; many friends and relatives in the Springfield area, Toronto, Ontario, and Italy; and last but not least, the family dog, Cooper Commisso.
