Stavros P. Malesta, 92, of East Longmeadow, MA passed away on Wednesday, May 2nd after being under the loving care of his daughter and her family in recent years. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Ann. He leaves his children, Maria Lewis of Tivoli, NY and her husband Joseph and Michael Malesta of Wethersfield, CT and his wife, Anne. Stavros was born on November, 28 1925 in New London, CT to the late Polychronis and Virginia (Papajohn) Malesta. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Lytras. Stavros led a fulfilling life first working in the insurance business and later owning three restaurants over many years. He was an avid Red Sox fan and especially enjoyed holidays when all his family would gather together. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling and were thrilled to be “snowbirds” living in Palmetto, FL. Stavros took great pride in his Greek heritage and was especially proud to be Papou to his three grandchildren, Jake, Nikki and Andrew. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home at 220 N. Main Street in East Longmeadow on Saturday, May 5th from 9:00-10:00am, followed by a funeral service at 11am at St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church on 400 Prospect Street in East Longmeadow. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in the memory of Stavros to St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church.
