Shirley Brown

East Longmeadow- Shirley A. (Streeter) Brown, a 53 year resident of this town, passed away on May 28, 2018 at age 83. Shirley was born on August 19, 1934 in Springfield; a daughter of the late Howard and Jessie (Blake) Streeter. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley P. Brown, a brother, Richard Streeter and a sister, Iris Siteman. As a Springfield College graduate and wife of a longtime professor there, Shirley has been a supporter of the college in many ways over the years. She and her husband were actively involved with the Republican Town Committee, and The First Congregational Church of East Longmeadow. For the last 11 years Shirley has also participated in a local Biblical Research Fellowship with The Way International. Shirley was Past Worthy Matron of Corona Chapter #205 O.E.S. and Past Mother Advisor of Rainbow Assembly #74. She belonged to The Daughters of the Nile, Ahlem Temple #84 and the “Forget-me-Nots”. Shirley was also active in Girl Scouts for many years as a scout, camp counselor, and troop leader. Before retiring in 1999, Shirley and Stanley operated their own Tax Preparation Service. Shirley is survived by her children, Phillip Brown (Sue) of Roanoke, VA, Carol Sue Sleator (Brian) of East Longmeadow, James Brown (Pamela) of Springfield; 2 grandchildren, Clayton Sleator and Jessica Sleator; 2 step grandchildren, Richard Clark and Amanda Clark; 2 step great-grandchildren, Frankie and Zayden, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be from 1:00PM to 3:00PM on Saturday June 2, 2018 in the Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main St. East Longmeadow with a Memorial Service held there at 3:00PM. There will be an Eastern Star Service at 2:00PM. Burial will be private.
