East Longmeadow- Sheila May (Johnson) Bennett, 77, passed away on Sunday October 3, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Springfield on April 28, 1944, a daughter of the late Emerson H. and Naida S. (Hansen) Johnson. Sheila was a graduate of East Longmeadow schools. She was the first person to proudly graduate in the first graduating class of East Longmeadow High School. She attended Holyoke Nursing School and worked for many years as a Private Duty Registered Nurse for healthcare settings in the area.

Sheila was a social butterfly, and she was actively involved with the VFW Post 9397 in Hampden and as part of their Women’s Auxiliary, and was a faithful communicant of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in East Longmeadow. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

In addition to her parents, Sheila was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years David R. Bennett in 2010.

She is survived by her two devoted children, Peter Bennett of Stafford Springs CT, and Jennifer Bennett Fearn of East Longmeadow, her three adored grandchildren Alexandra and Ryan Fearn of East Longmeadow and Brianna Bennett of Southwick, her two cherished sisters Linda Avery and her husband Ray of Hampden, and Diane Goguen and her husband Kerry of East Longmeadow, and her best friend and partner Tom Farrow of Hampden, and extended family and friends.

Sheila’s funeral will be on Tuesday October 12, 2021 with a visitation from 10:30-11:30am in St Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1 Porter Rd., East Longmeadow. A service will follow at 11:30am. Burial will be held privately by the family. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation.
