Scott Blais

Scott Blais, 47, a loving husband, father, son and dedicated Air Force Reserve Master Sergeant, passed away unexpectedly while in support of our Nation at Hickham Air Force Base in Hawaii. Scott was born in Massena, NY on August 18th, 1973. Following high school, he first joined the United States Marine Corps where he served honorably for 12 years. With a love of aviation and a passion to continue to serve his country, he then enlisted full-time in the Air Force Reserve at Westover, where he proudly worked as a flight engineer with the 337th Airlift Squadron. For 16 years, the 337th was his second family whom he cared so deeply about. Scott loved people and never met a stranger, a friendship with Scott could always be found. Scott was a great dad who was devoted to his two children, as well as a loving husband to his wife Erin. He was an Ohio State football fan (go Bucks), Montreal Canadiens hockey fan (even if he DID go to Bruins games once a year) and by all accounts never met a beer he didn’t like. Scott also had a deep passion for aviation, from watching anything and everything that flew overhead to making air museums across the country a part of family vacations, aviation was truly in his blood. Scott loved to play golf, rain or shine, and sought to play a round wherever his travels took him. He was also a Master Mason at Brigham Lodge in Ludlow, MA. He was predeceased by his mother, Verna Blais. Scott’s large and loving family will forever carry his spirit with them including his wife Erin; daughters Lillian (Lilly) Theresa and Molly Jane; and his parents Dick and Mary Blais. He also leaves his siblings: Gregory Blais and wife Nancy of NY, Christopher Blais and wife Cindy of NC, Jeffrey Blais and wife Kim of FL, Timothy Blais and wife Laurie of NY, Paul Blais and wife Alisha of KY; step siblings Jeffrey Silmser of NY and Deborah Snell and husband John of VT. He also leaves his mother and father-in-law Michael and Diane Prendergast of East Longmeadow; sisters-in-law Kristine Rueger and husband Jeffrey of Pittsfield, and Kara Whiteside and husband Eric of OH. Scott is also going to be missed by many nieces and nephews; countless aunts and uncles; his very dear friend Daniel “Sully” Sullivan; his “second parents” Frank and Cindy Cardella of NY; and his extended Air Force family in the 337th. The public is invited to honor Scott and show support for his family on Thursday, January 28th by standing along the procession route from Bradley International Airport as he arrives home beginning at approximately 4:30pm. Family and friends are invited to pay tribute to Scott with a walk thru visitation at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home at 220 North Main St in East Longmeadow on Friday, January 29th from 3-7pm . A funeral mass will follow beginning at 10 am on Saturday, January 30th at St. Michael’s Church in East Longmeadow with the public asked to gather directly at church. Military honors will follow concluding mass. The funeral mass and portions of the tribute will be live-streamed to ensure all have an opportunity to pay their respects. For family and friends wishing to attend in-person, masks and social distancing are mandatory.
