Salvatore DeCaro
July 28, 1939 ~ May 17, 2020 (age 80) 80 Years Old
East Longmeadow- Salvatore DeCaro 80, devoted husband of 54 years to Anna (Montefusco) DeCaro, Ascended into the Journey of Everlasting Life on Sunday May 17,2020 . He was surrounded by his loving family. Salvatore was born in Bracigliano, Italy on July 28,1939 a son of the late Giovanni and Carmela (D’Amato) DeCaro. He was very proud of having served in the Italian Army for two years. He learned wine making and baking, a skill that he would bring with him when he emigrated to the United States in 1966 and began his working career at LaFiorintina Bakery in Springfield. Salvatore was employed for 34 years and retired in 2002 as a machinist from Smith & Wesson, Springfield. It was also during this time Salvatore worked at Bernardino’s Bakery in Chicopee; before opening his own bakery, Napoli Bakery, East Longmeadow in 1981. He a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church in East Longmeadow. Salvatore was an avid gardener of both vegetables and flowers. He loved to go wild mushrooming, day trips to St. Ann’s Shrine in Sturbridge, Quincy Market in Boston, and Stanley Park in Westfield; with friends and family. He loved being at home visiting with family and friends, enjoying the fruits of his labor (his garden) , playing Italian Cards with his wife, his sons, and friends. He loved attending all of his grandchildren’s functions. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brothers, Gioacchino , Gaetano DeCaro and his wife Annunziatina DeCaro; his sisters, Rosina (DeCaro) Leone and her husband Carmino, Emilia (DeCaro) Cornito and her husband Magulade all of Italy. Besides his wife Anna, Salvatore is survived by his beloved children, Jack (Giacchino) DeCaro , Carmela DeCaro- Hodgdon , all of East Longmeadow, John DeCaro and his wife Karen (Davis) DeCaro of Springfield, Salvatore DeCaro Jr. and his wife Beth (Miller) DeCaro ,of Horse Heads, NY; his dear sister in law Italia DeCaro (wife of the late Gioacchino DeCaro) of Italy; his cherished grandchildren, Kayla DeCaro of Ludlow, Mackenizie Hodgdon, Victoria Hodgdon, both of East Longmeadow , Katherine DeCaro , Juliana DeCaro, both of Springfield, Daniel Cook, Briana DeCaro, Hannah DeCaro, all of Horseheads, NY; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends of the family here in the United States and in Italy who adored him.The family will receive friends from 4:00PM-8:00PM on Thursday (May 21, 2020) in the Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow.
