Ruth Agnes Daniele

East Longmeadow - Ruth Agnes (Mayotte) Daniele, died in her home on September 22, 2018. She was 88 years old. Ruth is survived by her husband, Donald; her children, Lynn Daniele of East Longmeadow, Michael Daniele and wife Joan of Hudson, NH, and Susan Steimer and husband Steve of Spencerport, NY; her seven grandchildren; and her eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Mayotte and her sister, Gertrude Grace Hansen. Ruth was born on July 21, 1930 in Chicopee, MA to Albert and Mabel (Beliveau) Mayotte. She graduated from Chicopee High School in 1947 and married Donald on Sep 11, 1948. Their 70-year marriage was a wonderful example of love and commitment to three following generations. Ruth worked as an operator at AT&T before moving to the East Longmeadow home in which she lived for 62 years. She served the community as secretary of the EL Recreation Association, a Brownie den mother, and a Girl Scout leader among many other efforts. She worked several years as a school bus driver, teaching her younger charges many songs, and often giving Christmas presents to all her kids. She rarely missed a class reunion, and in later years created tributes to members who had passed. Ruth was known for her sharp mind, she loved learning things, cataloging facts, and was a great fan of the TV show Jeopardy. Very few dinners did not include a round or two of Jeopardy questions, the subsequent discussions often requiring encyclopedia references to conclude. She could still solve Cryptogram puzzles at 88. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and a truly world-class laugh. No one loved a joke as much as Ruthie. She loved music and would often sing throughout the day or evening. Ruth and Donald wintered in Largo, FL and were fortunate enough to visit Australia, Hawaii, and many parts of the continental US. Ruth's wonderful life ended peacefully in her home of so many years, surrounded by her family. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow immediately followed by a funeral home service at 1:00pm.
