Ruby B. Waide

East Longmeadow – Ruby Virginia (Barber) Waide passed away on November 6, 2017. Born on October 16, 1921, Ruby grew up in Bernardston, MA attending a 1-room school house. She graduated from high school at age 15 and was offered a college basketball scholarship, which she declined. A graduate of Northampton Commercial College she worked until her marriage to Walter “Bud” Waide. Ruby and Bud raised 3 daughters in East Longmeadow. Widowed at age 42, Ruby worked as a single mom at Ear, Nose & Throat Associates for more than 20 years. She created an inviting home on Lester Street and she enjoyed reading, Scrabble, a clever joke, discussing politics and travelling with her companion Bob Wood, especially to the ocean. She deeply loved her 2 grandsons and 3 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, daughter Nancy Enright, and sons-in-law Lloyd Morse and Edward Enright. She leaves daughters, Virgina Waide Morse, and Jo-Ann Waide-Wunschel and her husband Frank; grandsons, Dr. Lee Jae Morse and his wife Dr. Ngoc Phan, and Frankie Wunschel; great grandchildren, Jaemin, Ailee and Tyken Morse, and nieces, Julie Lane Champagne and Carol Morris. The family thanks the nurses, med technicians, and RCs at Orchard Valley, nurses & therapists of Encompass Health Care, and Drs. Warren Thau and Zachry Zichittella; Gina Zichittella; Mary Scibelli, and Anna Dobek for their compassionate care of Ruby. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday November 9th from 5-7PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, MA. A service in the funeral home to celebrate Ruby’s life will be held on Friday, November 10th at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners’ Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
