Obituary

Rose Marie Albano passed into the Lord’s care on May 7, 2021, only several days shy of her 96th birthday.

Born on June 4, 1925 as the youngest child and only daughter of Rocco and Rosaria (Mango) Albano, Rose was raised in Springfield’s South End, attended Sumner Avenue Elementary School and Forest Park Junior High School before graduating with honors from the High School of Commerce in 1944. Rose was a respected 37 year employee of Mead Westvaco, and she was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish. She loved her family abundantly and unconditionally, and for many years hosted holiday dinners in her home, always serving her incredible lasagna and other traditional Italian dishes.

Rose was predeceased by her parents and her four brothers, James, Michael, Frank and Alfred. She is survived by, and will always be remembered as the generous and loving aunt to her nieces and nephews, Robert Albano of Holyoke, Frances Drumm of Southwick, Patricia Scafati of Indialantic, FL, Margaret Wagner of Durham, NC, Mary Lou Sullivan of Merritt Island, FL and Alfred J. Albano, Jr. of Sunderland.  She also leaves 14 grand nieces and nephews, 15 great grand nieces and nephews and one great great grandniece.

The family wishes to thank Dr. James M. Freeman and his staff for their compassionate care and support during the period of Rose’s declining health, and they will be forever grateful to grand nieces, Tina Albano and Denise Albano, for the care and attention they provided during the pandemic when others were unable to do so.
