Ronald Campbell Eaton Fisher, 76, died on October 11, 2022. Ron was born on April 11, 1946, in Boston, MA, son of the late Rudolph John and Barbara (Eaton) Fisher. Family, friends and physical mechanics captivated Ron and inspired his pursuits.
Ron was a graduate of Longmeadow High School and University of Hartford. From youth, he simultaneously learned about manufacturing and problem solving at his family manufacturing business in Springfield, MA, where he worked for over 65 years.
He was the much-loved husband of Wendy (Colyer) Fisher, for 55 years and loving father of Eric Fisher (Anjali Vichare) and Heidi Merchant (Greg) and three grandchildren, Mason Shotwell Merchant, Noelle Elizabeth Merchant, and Justin George Fisher. He was the brother of the late Yasha Joy and Douglas Fisher and uncle to six nieces and nephews. He adored his family dogs, Snowy and Lucy.
While owning Manufacturing businesses, Ron also served as President, Manager and Engineer, as a tools inventor, machine innovator, designer and manager of production and personnel. He was beloved and trusted by his customers and employees as an engineer who could design and build anything they needed, consistently over-delivering with thoughtful creativity.
Ron had many hobbies that were technical and challenging. He built countless mechanisms by hand including: a wooden speedboat, scooters, trailers, a television, radios and model cars and airplanes. Ron enjoyed maintaining his automobiles and motorcycles himself and rolling his six-foot telescope outside to marvel at and display planets and stars, which led to interests in space travel and the Universe.
Ron was a skilled and passionate pilot of aircraft, sailboats, and motorboats. He loved driving his cars and safely managed to operate six motorcycles over five decades without close calls, which illustrates his nickname “The Champ.” As a talented athlete, Ron was a water skier, windsurfer, alpine skier and tennis player, making those look easy and effortless. Other activities included golf, safe marksmanship and Scuba diving to salvage treasure from Squam Lake’s depths. Ron eagerly taught willing family and friends such activities. Champ particularly enjoyed when the love of his life Wendy, who he called “Pal,” along with their children and grandchildren participated.
A Field Club of Longmeadow member for 46 years, Ron enthusiastically played tennis, paddle and swam there. Ron’s special places included Squam Lake, NH, Snowbird, UT, and Island of St Martin and anywhere with family. A constant learner, Ron spent every moment discovering. Eternally comfortable in his own skin, Ron shared his energy, ability, and creativity with others, positively riding all challenges life offered.
Ron loved telling jokes with his laugh so infectious he would leave a room in hysterics, even so for those who missed the words. All knew Ron as a treasure and a special friend.
A Memorial Service for Ron will be held November 26, 2022, 10:30 AM, at The First Church of Christ, Longmeadow, MA.
