Obituary

After bravely battling an aggressive form of lung cancer, Robert M. Bernier passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on January 8, 2022. Born on July 31, 1949 to the late Therese DePaolo (Ferriere) and Ernest Bernier of Enfield, he was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War as a helicopter mechanic. After returning home, he continued his education becoming a tradesman in the printing industry. His career as an engineer in printing gave him the joy and privilege of travelling the world for many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. Bobby was a people person with a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh. He enjoyed spending time with his family, sharing stories about his time travelling the world, helping others, and going to his favorite breakfast spot to visit with his friends many mornings. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Carol (Dickinson) Bernier, his children; Michele Cruz and her husband Joel, Robert Bernier and his fiancé Kelly Clough, and Daniel Bernier. He was a loving Grandpa to Jordan and Amaiah Cruz, Robert Jr. and James Bernier, Daniel Bernier Jr. and Nicholas, Joseph and Sophia Clough. He is also survived by siblings Dorrie Bernier Campisi and husband Lance, Kathy Riding and husband John and brother-in-law Arthur Valliere. He was predeceased by his father Earnest Bernier, his mother Therese Ferriere DePaolo, his stepfather Charles DePaolo, his brother Charles DePaolo Jr and sister Anna DePaolo Valliere. The family would like to extend their eternal thanks to his oncologist, Dr. McCann and his wonderful staff, as well as all the visiting nurse, palliative and hospice nurses that helped to support and make Bobby as comfortable as possible. Funeral services will be held for Bobby Friday January 14, 2022 beginning with a procession at 10:30AM from Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main Street, Agawam, MA followed by a graveside service with military honors at 11:00AM in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA.
