Obituary

East Longmeadow- Richard Louis Lupi, 88, died peacefully surrounded by family at East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing on February 22, 2019. He was born in Springfield Ma to the late Louis and Anna (Palazzi) Lupi on October 18, 1930. While growing up in Springfield, Richard graduated the Springfield schools and attended trade school where he learned electrical engineering. Richard enlisted in the United States Air force and served his country for 4 years where he earned a Good Conduct Medal and was Honorably Discharged. He worked at Standard Electric Time Company for many years, where he assembled the first fire alarms systems with pull stations. Later he worked at Hamilton Standard, where he worked on aircraft propeller systems and aerospace components and systems. Dick was a loving family man, who enjoyed his boat in Mystic CT, and in his retirement, golfing with family and friends. He loved spending time with his family, talking about the days daily events, and enjoying time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a man with a big heart, and he will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew him. Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rose (Kubik) Lupi; his sons Richard Lupi Jr., of Wilbraham, and Joseph Lupi and wife Kim of East Longmeadow; his grandchildren, Brian Sullivan and his life partner Laura Pumiglia , James Sullivan and his wife Kerri, Kate Faulkner, Nicholas Lupi, and Christopher Stoothoff; great-grandchildren Brooke, Kayla, Samantha, and Ryleigh; sister Roselie Bilton of East Longmeadow; and two wonderful best friends Ray and Pat Kemple. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Faulkner; 2 sisters, Ceil Cormier and Geri Samble; and 2 brothers, Louis Lupi Jr. and Robert Lupi. Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 4-7 PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow. Funeral services will be on Friday, March 1, 2019 beginning at 10:00 AM at the funeral home followed by A Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 235 Dwight Rd. Springfield, MA. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
