Richard Hickman

Springfield- Richard A. Hickman, 95, also known as “Hick”, Ascended into the Journey of Everlasting Life on March 12, 2018. Born in Springfield, he was a life long resident and a graduate of the High School of Commerce.
Richard was a World War II, Air force veteran He was proud member of the 104th Fighter Group, Massachusetts Air National Guard retiring in 1966. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Springfield Elks Lodge #61.
Prior to retirement in 1973 Richard was employed in outside sales by Crane Supply Co., NY, NY, for 20 years. He then went to work for F.C. Taplin Co., as Department Manager for 4 years.
Richard loved to sing, especially in choral groups. He enjoyed singing at St Michael’s Church, East Longmeadow; and the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke.
He is survived by his God child, Donna Sevila-Tisdell , her husband Anthony , and her son, Jeremy all of Westfield; and “Hick’s” special friends who were like family, Mark Farrell of East Longmeadow, Chris LeBlanc and her husband Edward of Springfield, Pearl Farrell of Springfield; and his very special neighbor, Jacqueline Ford.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Reece C. and Julia (Triggs) Hickman; his sister, Ruth Hickman and his brother John Hickman.
A calling hour will take place from 8:00AM – 9:00AM, on Saturday (March 17, 2018) at the Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Funeral services will begin at 9:00am with a procession to St. Michael’s Church, 128 Maple St. East Longmeadow with a Liturgy of Christian Burial offered at 10:00 AM. Burial with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harmony House, 663 Pendleton Ave., Chicopee, MA 01020.
