Raymond F. Pleva, Jr., 64, of Agawam, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017 at home. Born in Springfield, MA on February 10, 1953, he was the son of the late Raymond Pleva, Sr., who predeceased him in 2000, and Shirley (Hout) Pleva of Agawam. Upon graduation from Agawam High School, Class of 1972, Raymond enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Maguire Air Force Base from 1974-1994. He proudly circumnavigated the world and was involved in every U.S. conflict from Vietnam to Desert Storm serving in the flight crew position known as LOADMASTER.
Besides his mother Shirley, he is survived by his 4 children, Raymond Pleva, III, of Cambridge, NY, John Pleva of Pembroke, MA, Michelle Fontanilles and her husband Matthew of Westfield, and Lavena Pleva of Riverside, NJ; 7 grandchildren, Michelle Murray, Elijah Pleva, Jaison-Ashley Pleva, Isaiah Pleva, Marcus Fontanilles, Justin Pleva, and Gabriel Pleva; 4 siblings, Mark Pleva, Dana Pleva, Sandra Blackburn and her husband Steven, and Robin Pleva and her partner Janet Cope; a close family friend, William King ; and many nieces and nephews.
His family will receive friends on Thursday, November 16th from 4-7 PM at the Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main St., Agawam. His Funeral will begin on Friday, November 17th at 8:45 AM from the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, Agawam. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam.
