Obituary

Southwick – Phyllis F. (Gonska) Bombard, 87, loving wife of the late Harold Earl Bombard, passed away peacefully May 2, 2022. Born March 22, 1935 in Housatonic, MA, she was a daughter to the late Andrew and Helen (Sadlowski) Gonska. Phyllis was a mom and grandma to many and will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to have known her. She was known for her loving heart and open armed personality which had helped countless people over the years including her family, friends, neighbors and even those she had only met for a moment. Once you met Phyllis, you had a friend for life. Phyllis loved traveling the country with her family, exploring most of the national parks throughout the US. She also enjoyed taking a variety of trips with the Kaman Club in Bloomfield, CT, where she had been employed for numerous years until her retirement. One could also find her enjoying a daytrip on the back of her husband’s motorcycle or on her scooter in which she would use to travel here and there. She also had a passion for genealogy and had assisted many reconnecting with their families, living and deceased. Phyllis was known for her love of hiking, enjoying a visit to an area casino or Atlantic City, listening to 40’s music as well as polkas, and her enjoyment of an occasional Bloody Mary or shot of fireball. She was a gifted seamstress repairing anything that was placed in front of her, and loved knitting and quilting items for others. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family especially watching her grandchildren play sports including soccer, street hockey and motocross. She will be fondly missed by her children Robert Bombard and his partner Leigh of Southwick, MA, Michelle Bombard of Agawam, MA and Diane Vella and her husband, Matthew of Westfield; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren with another on the way; her brother Andrew Gonska of Uxbridge, MA and several other loving relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son David; and sisters Patricia Gaudette and Kathleen Parsons. A gathering of family and friends to honor Phyllis will be held from 11AM-1PM on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick, MA with a Celebration of Life ceremony beginning at 1PM. A committal service will be held on Monday, May 16, 2022 at 11AM in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA where she will be reunited with her husband, Harold.
