Paul E. Bickford, 64, passed away November 8, 2019. “The Chef” was loved by all for his indomitable dry wit and his culinary delights. A graduate of Agawam High School, he was trained by a cordon bleu chef and attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. He was head chef at numerous private clubs, restaurants and country clubs over his 47 year career in the culinary arts. There is hardly a soul in the Agawam/Springfield area who has not sampled, and been in awe of his delightful creations. He is survived by his brother George B. Bickford and wife Sally Kirtley of Windsor, CT, and his sister (another talented artist) Amy E. Bickford of New Gloucester, ME, a beloved Uncle and Aunt, Birnie F. Bickford and Patricia Bickford, of South Hadley, MA, perhaps his dearest friend “the step-mother” Carol E. Aiken of West Springfield, MA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his father, George E. Bickford, mother Joyce B. Bickford, and brothers Mathew R. Bickford and James F. Bickford. Paul will be remembered fondly by all. Paul’s family is planning a gathering of family and friends from 11AM-12PM on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main Street, Agawam, MA with a Memorial Service beginning at 12PM. Guests are welcome to join the family afterwards at The Back Room, 827 Springfield Street, Agawam, MA from 1:30 to 4:00PM for libations, appetizers, commiseration and joyful remembrance. Paul’s employer, owner of the Back Room, has been so kind as to provide us with assistance. In lieu of flowers, Paul would have preferred donations to the charity of your choice in his memory.
