Obituary

Normand G. Boutin of Longmeadow, MA, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2021. He was born on April 7, 1945, in Holyoke, MA to Evelyn (Renaud) and Alphage Boutin. He spent much of his boyhood in the flats of Holyoke, where he developed a lifelong love of watching and playing baseball, basketball, and football. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Throughout his life he was a tireless worker, first employed at the age of 13 on a tobacco farm in Hadley, MA.  He attended college at UMass Amherst and received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He held a diverse spectrum of occupations over the years - including as a high school math and science teacher, licensed electrician, and industrial chemist - before opening his own successful manufacturing business in the electroplating industry in 1981 with his wife, Joyce (Witaszek). He served as President and CEO of Plating Supplies International, Inc. until his passing. He was a talented craftsman and enjoyed working on home remodeling projects. He loved family road trips, traveling throughout the Eastern United States and Canada, and had a special love and affinity for Ocean City, NJ.  He was a natural teacher and mentor, serving as head coach for youth basketball and baseball teams over the years for his five children. Quick-witted and compassionate, Norm valued loyalty, honesty, frugality, and self-sufficiency, attributes he also nurtured in his children.

Norm was unfortunately inflicted with progressive dementia for the last few years of his life and eventually died from illness related to COVID-19. He leaves his wife, two sons and three daughters, many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved dog, Beau. He was loved deeply by his family and will be forever missed. Services are private, with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.  Donations in Norm's memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org.
