Feeding Hills- Michelangelo (Mike) Nunziato, 94, passed away on September 4, 2017. His beloved wife, Carmella Rose (Izzo) Nunziato passed away in 1989. Mike was born on September 24, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Carlo and Anna (Fierro) Nunziato. He graduated from the Manhattan High School of Aviation Trades, joined the Army Air Corps as an aircraft mechanic. He served in World War II as a Master Sergeant on the air fields of Scotland joining the Air Force Reserves after the war. He worked at Indian Motorcycles for a time and then devoted himself to the aeronautical industry  for over 40 years. He was employed at Idlewild (Kennedy) Airport, Kaman Aircraft and Brainard Airport. He was an FAA inspector for a time before becoming a Quality Control Specialist for the Department of Defense. In middle age he completed an educational degree program at Westfield State University which was linked to his area of specialty. Following retirement, he volunteered for 15 years at Westover Air Force Base, and was a 30 year member of Fitness First in Feeding Hills. All of Mike’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke for the wonderful care they gave him during his stay there.
Mike is survived by his sons Carl M. Nunziato and his wife, Joan, of Agawam, and Michael Nunziato Jr. and his wife, Robin, of Agawam. He is also survived by his daughters, Anne M. Murray, and her husband, James, of Southwick, Linda R. Caney and her husband , Charles, of Ellington, CT and Barbara J. Santaniello and her husband, Giuseppe, of Agawam. Mike also leaves 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren as well as his sister, Mary DiDio of Brooklyn, NY. He was predeceased by his brothers, Anthony and Joseph Nunziato, and his sister, Rose Rizzo.  Visitation will be held from 8:30AM -10:30AM on Tuesday (September 12, 2017) in the Colonial Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 985 Main St., Agawam. Funeral services will begin at 10:30AM from the funeral home  with a procession and Liturgy of Christian Burial offered at 11:30 AM in Sacred Heart Parish, 1605 Springfield Street, Feeding Hills. Burial with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
