Michael W. Chmielewski

Michael Walter Chmielewski of West Springfield passed away on December 31, 2020 at the age of 76 surrounded by his family and a lot of love. Michael was born on October 15th 1944 in Springfield, MA to the late Walter and Anna Chmielewski and grew up with his sister Barbara Therrien of Lake Worth, FL. As a teen, he loved cars and spending time with his dogs Butch and Duke. In 1966, he married Faith Moore and they were blessed with their daughter Amy. His biggest and proudest accomplishment was being a father and grandfather. He leaves behind Daughter Amy Walder & Husband Randy Walder of Palmer and Daughter Laurie Hogan and Husband Michael Hogan of Agawam, and his two grandchildren, Krista and Kurt Walder of Palmer, MA. Michael married Jeanne Steel in 1983 and became stepfather “Mikey” to Phyllis, Julie, and Tammy Moran step-grandfather to John Piccoli, Christine Ottino and Danielle, as well as becoming a (step) great grandfather to Kayla Piccoli and Julia Ottino. He also leaves behind his beloved pet, Squeaky.

Michael worked for MS Tomato in Springfield as a truck driver for many years and was also a certified Dog Groomer. He enjoyed fishing, watching movies, cars, and the older TV shows, in particular GunSmoke. Michael was known for his love of animals, nature, the ocean and children. His family was most important to him. He will always be missed, especially for his bear hugs, his infectious laugh, and his keen ability to listen to what was going on in your life at that moment. He will be forever in our hearts always “Until we meet again.”

Visiting hours will be Friday, January 8, 2020 from 5:00-7:00pm, with a prayer service at 7:00pm at Colonial Forastiere Funeral & Cremation on 985 Main Street in Agawam.
