East Longmeadow – Mary T. (Dineen) Scanlon, 88, passed away peacefully on July, 22 2017. She was born and raised in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (O’Connor) Dineen. Mary graduated from Cathedral High School in 1947. She married her high school sweetheart, Jim, and raised their family in East Longmeadow. She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Parish and was an active member of their Women’s Club. She provided customer service and bookkeeping for the James F. Scanlon Insurance Agency before retiring in 1995. More than anything Mary loved being with her family, was actively involved with all of her grandchildren and will be remembered as a talented gardener and a loving owner to her Sheltie “Tyke.” Her loving husband of 49 years, James F. Scanlon, Jr. predeceased her in 2001. She is survived by a son, James M. Scanlon and his wife Kathleen Speight Scanlon of Nokomis, FL; 2 daughters, Patricia Scanlon Holland of Nags Head, NC and Theresa Hojnoski and her husband Eric of Enfield; 6 grandchildren, Marie and her husband Reece, Michael, Kimberlee and her husband James, Christine and her husband Al, Mary and Timmy; 1 great grandson Liam and devoted sister-in-law Patricia Scanlon and her children Robin, Andrea and Patrick. She is predeceased by a brother John Dineen and wife Dorothy and brother-in-law William Scanlon. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 10:00AM in St. Michaels Parish, East Longmeadow followed by inurnment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011 or Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield Retirement Fund, 577 Carew Street, Springfield, MA  01104.
