Obituary

WESTFIELD – Mary E. Pomeroy, 77, passed into the caring arms of her Savior with family present on November 15, 2021 at Baystate Medical Center. Mary was born on March 22, 1944 in Holyoke, MA to Wesley and Margaret Bilek. Mary grew up in Westfield, and attended Westfield Public Schools. In 1962 at the age of 18, she married Robert W. Sickles and moved to Springfield MA. Robert and Mary were married 17 years, and had a daughter together, Joanne. Mary later remarried in September of 1979 to Allen Pomeroy and moved to Southwick MA. Allen and Mary had one son together, Wesley. Mary became widowed when Allen passed in 1994 and never remarried.

Mary worked as a box maker for various companies during her career. She also became a CNA/caretaker for an elderly person later in life. In the 1980s, the family enjoyed traveling extensively across the U.S. and Canada. They traveled to many national parks and places of interest during those years, with a particular fondness of Colorado. They spent many holidays and family gatherings at the family cottage on Lake Congamond in Southwick. Mary greatly enjoyed bird watching. She loved music from the 50’s and 60’s, and Elvis Presley in particular. She liked playing board games, cards, and going to bingo. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Mary volunteered her time at the Westfield Senior Center to help prepare meals, and call bingo.

Mary leaves her mother Margaret H. Bilek, her two children, Joanne Sickles and Wesley Pomeroy, her three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Carol and Robert Podolski, Margaret and James Hart, and Christine King, 3 grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews, Gabby and friends. Mary was loved dearly by her caretakers Melanie, Talysha, and Gabby. Mary will be will missed by many.

Church services to be announced at a later time. A graveside service and celebration of life to be held in the spring of 2022.
