Mary J. Loomis

Mary J. Loomis, 87, passed away at home on November 25, 2018. She was born May 15, 1931 in Springfield, the daughter of the late Clifford and Helen (Comer) Desrosiers, and was a lifelong resident. Mary was the loving sister to the late Robert Desrosiers and Donald Desrosiers. Mary was the beloved wife of 65 years of the late Robert L. Loomis Sr., who predeceased her in September 2018. Before starting her family, Mary had been employed by Muriel’s and Steiger’s Department Store. Later in life she was employed for many years by the City of Springfield as a crossing guard at the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and Plumtree Road. Mary was a member of Holy Cross Church and was a member of the Holy Cross Women’s Bowling League for many years. Mary enjoyed gardening, shopping, especially collecting snowmen, and spending time with family. She leaves her beloved children, Donna Pelczarski and her husband David of Chicopee, William Loomis and his wife Julie of Wilbraham, and Robert Loomis Jr. of Springfield; six cherished grandchildren, Laura Dutko and her husband Brian, Kara McDonald and her husband Bradford, Julia Gurney and her husband Henry, Scott Loomis, Daniel Loomis, Allison Loomis and her fiancé Tomi Donohoe; and a great grandchild Ethan Dutko. Mary’s funeral will be held on Thursday, November 29th from Forastiere Smith Funeral and Cremation, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow at 9:45AM followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church in Springfield at 11:00AM. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 28th from 4-7PM.
