Obituary

East Longmeadow – Mary Teresa Danos, 88, passed away at home surrounded by family on May 26, 2020. Mary was born in Springfield on July 14, 1931 to the late Pasquale and Agata (Luvera) Pellegrino. She grew up a first generation Italian-American along with four brothers, graduating with honors from Commerce High School. Mary worked as a secretary – first at Stacey Supply, and then for several years at American Bosch where she met her husband Leonard, whom she married on July 7, 1956. They had three children, Lynn, John, and Chris, and moved to East Longmeadow in 1967, where they remained since.
Mary enjoyed homemaking, cooking, and spending time with her extended family as well as her close friends. She took great enjoyment from movies, silver screen knowledge, and dancing which she shared with her husband. She experienced great joy in music and instilled that in all of her children. When her children were in grade school, Mary worked for several years as a secretary at Springfield College, and once her children were grown she spent many years serving The United Way.

Mary was wonderful, kind, gracious, and giving to her entire family, and all her friends. She was always offering comfort, care, warmth, sweet song, and her wonderful cooking that was the nurturing pillar of the family home. Mary was there for family and friends throughout her life, always putting others first. She was deeply spiritual and continually offered prayers for all whom she loved. She will live on forever in our hearts – caregiver, provider, and true hero.

Mary will be deeply missed by her husband of nearly 64 years, Leonard C. Danos of East Longmeadow, her daughter Lynn (Richard) Bluhm of Illinois, her son John Danos (Christine Kellner) of New Hampshire, brother-in-law Harry Danos of Connecticut, sister-in-law Eleanor Pellegrino of Springfield, beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her son Christopher, and her brothers.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the caregivers of Baystate Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Baystate Hospice, St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Springfield, St. Michael’s Church of East Longmeadow or the charity of your wishes will be appreciated.
