Obituary

MARY JEAN BAGLEY of Agawam began her journey home to Jesus on June 27, 2020. Mary passed at Baystate Medical Center after complications from a fall. She was ninty-five years old.

She was a resident of Agawam for over 70 years. Born to Otto Stump and Nellie (Howard) Stump, on January 19, 1925, Mary was raised in Toppenish Washington by William and Bertha Schoepflin. She graduated from Yakima Valley Academy in ninteen forty four and went on to teach school there for several years.

She went on to meet and marry William Emery of Springfield. After several years of marriage and the birth of one child they divorced.

Mary Jean re-married life long resident Walter T. Bagley of Agawam. She went on to be a waitress and Tea Room Hostess at the Albert Stieger Company for over 30 years. She also worked part time for the holidays at Johnson Bookstore's Camera Department for many years.

Mary loved to cook, do crafts and to garden. She had several beautiful rose gardens around their Agawam home and she and her husband also raised rabbits, chickens, goats and other small animals. They operated a small stand on Main St in Agawam through the summer. They owned the BIG ELM RABBITRY and sold rabbits for show, pets and meat.

Mary also loved to sew and quilt and made many of her daughter's clothes including a copy of a beautiful Gucci wedding dress for her daughter that was featured in the Albert Steiger window for a bridal season showcase. She made many beautiful quilts, most hand done and mainly for family members and newborn children.

Mary was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Agawam where she was a vocalist in the Choir
for many years.

Mary's husband Walter passed in December of 1991. Mary had many sisters and a brother all of whom have passed previously, and her grandaghter, Allyson Marie Cleary who also has passed. Mary is survived by her only daughter Denice L. Emery – Ferrero and her husband Michael Ferrero both of Agawam, grandson, Anthony Ferrero of Missouri, grandaughter Kathleen (Ferrero) and her husband Kylon Ice of Illinois, four great grandchildren in Illinois and her many nieces and nephews in Washington, Oregon, California and Georgia.

The graveside eulogy service will be held at the Agawam Center Cemetery on Main St in Agawam on Thursday July 2, 2020 at 10:00 AM where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Walter. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that if you wish.. you may make a donation to a charity of your choice in her name.
