John Rossiter passed away on May 3, 2019 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts after a brief illness. Born in West Hartford, CT, he graduated from William Hall High School in 1946. He was a graduate of Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT and Springfield College where he received his Master of Science Degree in 1955. He did further graduate work at Rutgers University and at the University of Massachusetts. John was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having seen active combat as a Corporal in the U.S. Army before his discharge in 1953. He taught at Longmeadow High School from its opening in 1955 until 1970. He also taught at Agawam High School. He was employed at the Massachusetts Career Development Center before his tenure as a Vocational Supervisor for the Massachusetts Department of Education, where he served until his retirement in 1987. He was a 44 year resident of Longmeadow, and was a member of the First Church of Christ at Court Square in Springfield. Having moved to East Longmeadow in 2001, he was also a resident of Sarasota, FL for several years. John leaves his beloved wife, Mary Rossiter, two sons, James Rossiter and his wife, Angelica, of South Windsor, Connecticut, and Robert Rossiter of East Longmeadow. He leaves three daughters, Ann Buchholz, and her husband Joseph, of Oxford, MA, Katherine Shore and her husband Edward of East Longmeadow, and Nancy Rossiter of Jacksonville, FL. He also leaves four grandchildren, Caitlin Shore, Liam Shore, John Buchholz and Nicolas Rossiter. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, May 6th from 4-7PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, MA. A funeral home service will be held on Tuesday, May 7th at 11AM followed by burial in Longmeadow Cemetery. Donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
