Springfield-John “Nizzi” Niziankowicz, 79, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 21, 2021. He was a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Murphy) Niziankowicz. Nizzi was a lifelong Springfield resident and a proud US Marines Vietnam veteran. He worked for over 32 years for the Springfield Fire department and retired in 1998. He also worked for Atlantic exterminating for over 20 years. He was a member of the Springfield Elks Lodge #61 and received veteran of the year in 1996. He was also a member of the Italian American Citizen Club. Nizzi enjoyed camping, playing golf, spending time with family and friends and was a best friend to all who knew him. He will be missed by his beloved wife of over 37 years Mercedes (Spencer) Niziankowicz, his children Tina Henry and her husband John of Belchertown, Dawn Thompson and her husband Harry of Hanscom Air force Base, MA, Heather Clark and her husband Michael of Hampden, MA, Michael Niziankowicz and his wife Jennifer of East Longmeadow, Grandchildren Matthew, Kayla, Samantha, William, Ryan, Amanda, Mikayla, Adrianna, Christina, Evan, and Aidan. He was predeceased by a daughter Lisa Nizankowicz in 2016.
Visiting Hours for Nizzi will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 4pm-7pm and a funeral home service at 6:30pm at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation, 220 N. Main Street, East Longmeadow. His Burial will be held Monday, November 29, 2021 at 9am at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA.
