John Beninati
Known as a hardworking man who was respected for his knowledge, work ethic and dedication, John P. Beninati will be missed by his family, friends and coworkers. John passed away peacefully at his home in West Palm Beach, FL on July 23, 2021 with family by his side. He will be remembered for his vast contributions on the Railroad, where he worked as a Bridge Inspector with CSX and prior Conrail. He began in the Bridges and Building Department and his tenacity lead him to Foreman and then Bridge Inspector. He enjoyed helping others in his field and used his carpentry skills over the years to help rebuild old train stations, in addition to his renovating various kitchens and bathrooms for personal remodel projects. John cherished his close friendships and the regular golf game he enjoyed with many. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, and was passionate about the New York Giants.
A life-long resident of Springfield, John was the son of Amina (Vannini) and the late Philip Beninati. After graduating high school he served in the military during the Vietnam War for the Seabees division of the U.S. Navy. Soon after serving his country, he began his own family with his wife Kathleen (Loudfoot). In addition to his wife of almost 48 years, Kathleen, he is survived by his daughter Leah Vannini and her husband Justin Molito of Newtown CT, his son Michael Beninati of West Springfield, his mother Amina Vannini, and three adored grandchildren: Alexander Molito, Elora and Carina Beninati. Besides his father, John was predeceased by his sister Lillian Beninati Barry in 2012.
Services to celebrate John’s life will begin with visiting hours on Sunday, August 8, 2021 from 4:00-7:00pm at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation on 220 N. Main Street in East Longmeadow. The funeral service will be on Monday, August 9th promptly at 9:30am at the funeral home, followed by a procession to the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam for the committal service with military honors.
