Joanna Cardinale (Diodati) of East Longmeadow of many years was called into everlasting life on October 23rd. She was born in Springfield on Febraury 12th 1953. Joanna studied theology at Holy Apostles College in Cromwell, CT. She worked for over 26 years at Baystate Medical Center as medical assistant in the Emergency Department, she was incredibly proud of the work she did. One of the tenets of Joanna’s life was her Catholic faith, a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Springfield for many years, she was also a member of the 3rd Order of Dominican Nuns, in addition she had a lifelong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Joanna was predeceased by her parents Grace and Anthony Vecchiarelli and Raymond Diodati. She will forever be missed by her loving family including her son Mario Cardinale and his wife Sandra of Somers, CT; her daughter Maria Cardinale of Springfield; her siblings Anthony Vecchiarelli, Mark Vecchiarelli and his wife Mary Ann, Diane Capua and her husband Carmine, Roseanne Godbout, and Nina Stramaglia and her husband Tony. She also leaves her two grandchildren Francesca Cardinale and Marisa Cardinale, as well as many nieces and nephews, and beloved Ava. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home located at 220 North Main St in East Longmeadow on Wednesday October 28th from 4-7pm. Joanna’s funeral will begin at 8:45 on Thursday October 29th at the funeral home, with a funeral mass to follow at 10am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor-St. Joseph’s Residence, Enfield CT.
