Joanne C. Garvey
1942 – 2021

East Longmeadow – JoAnne C. (Cowles) Garvey, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 3, 2021 at Baystate Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Springfield, on April 18, 1942, a daughter of the late Robert Cowles and Floramarie (Hinkley) Cowles. JoAnne was a graduate of Longmeadow Schools, and worked as a manager in various retail clothing shops. Joanne was dedicated to the Shriners. Her accomplishments included joining the Ahlem Temple in Sept 1986, Queen of the Ahlem Temple Daughters of the Nile in 1994, appointed Captain of the Guard at Melha Shriners in 2003 by Robert Marshall, and Melha First Lady in 2010. JoAnne was a loving wife and mother, and her skills as a domestic engineer helped her to raise five wonderful children. She was dedicated to the care of her husband, James J. Garvey, in his last years.

She will be deeply missed by her loving family, her children Paul Garvey and his wife Kim of Hampden MA, Denise Garvey and her fiancé Matthew Lynch of Stafford Springs CT, Lawrence Garvey and his wife Vicki of East Longmeadow MA, James Garvey and his wife Heather of Florida Keys, and Chris Garvey and his wife Crystal of Longmeadow MA, her adored grandchildren Branden Garvey and his wife Emily, Nicole Garvey, Michael James Valencis, Natasha and her husband Jim, Andrea, Cameron and George, her great-grandchildren Troy, Eric, Gianna and Matthew, her brothers Laurence Cowles of FL, and Mark Cowles of Wilbraham, and many extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, JoAnne was predeceased by her brother Robert Cowles.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours Tuesday October 12, 2021 from 3-7pm in Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation, 220 N. Main St., East Longmeadow MA. A Masonic Service and Celebration of Life will follow at 7:00pm. Memorial contributions in JoAnne’s name may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield MA 01104.
