Janet Evelyn Porfilio

Janet Evelyn Porfilio, 86 a long time Springfield resident, died peacefully on April 13th, surrounded by family.  Janet was born in Woodstock, CT to the late John and Elizabeth (Burchak) Durica on September 24, 1930.  She was a graduate of Woodstock Academy.  In her early twenties, she moved to Warren, MA and lived there for many years. She was an employee of Monarch Life Insurance Co. for over 30 years.  Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Nicola, who died on April 15, 2014. Janet and Nicola volunteered for many worthy causes with the Knights of Columbus and the Italian American War Veterans. She was also predeceased by her three sisters, Mae Frenchik, Margaret McKinstry and Elsie Drotos. She leaves behind her two daughters by marriage, Sylvia Brennan and her husband Edward and Joanna DiCiocco.  Her four grandchildren, Michael Brennan and wife Tonya, Theresa O'Donnell and husband Patrick, Lynda Noone and husband Barry and Angela Sansone and husband Nicholas. She also leaves 9 great-grandchildren, Peyton and Reese Brennan, Emma and Andrew O'Donnell, Nicola, Patrick and Landon Noone and Daniela and Nolan Sansone. She also leaves behind two nieces, Carol Putz and husband Anthony and Mary Christo and husband Stephen and many extended family members from both sides of the family. Visiting hours will be on Monday, April 17th from 4-7 p.m. at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 18th at 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, 221 Plumtree Rd. in Springfield. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery.   Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
