James Severin Todd, 90, of Longmeadow, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 2, 2018 in a local nursing home. Born in Weymouth, he was the son of the late James Gordon Todd and Bernice Malenfont Osborn, and the former husband of Doris E. Todd, with whom he was reunited in later years. Jim (or Sev as his mother called him) obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from American International College and worked alongside his father at Myrtle Street Market (a.k.a. Todd’s Market) on High Street and then on Myrtle Street in Springfield for numerous years. Jim also worked as a salesman and was the owner and manager of several apartment buildings in Springfield with his wife Doris. Jim had quite a sense of humor, was an avid reader and enjoyed discussing current and historical events. He also enjoyed singing and listening to entertainers of his generation, especially Al Jolson. He lived for many years in Fort Lauderdale, Florida before returning to the Springfield area. He is survived by his son Mark G. Todd (and Lori) of Holyoke, and his daughter Attorney Mary R. Bonzagni and her husband Francis of Wilbraham; seven adored grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, who brought him great joy in his later years, and two great-grandsons. Besides his parents, Jim is predeceased by his daughter Susanne M. Todd, his former wife Doris, and his sister Alna Burnham.
Services for Jim will be on Thursday, June 14th beginning with visiting hours from 8:30-10:00am at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation on 220 N Main Street in East Longmeadow, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Michael’s Cathedral on 260 State Street in Springfield and burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Donations may be made in Jim’s memory to: the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield.
