James Thomas, 88, of Agawam, passed away peacefully January 31, 2020. Born February 16, 1931 in Dublin, Ireland, he emigrated as a young man to the U.S. where he served his country proudly with the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he was employed with Sears, Roebuck & Co. until his retirement. Jim enjoyed dancing and traveling to destinations around the world with his wife of 49 years, Phyllis (Stevens), who passed away in 2015. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by 2 brothers and 5 sisters. He is survived by his nieces Jennifer and James Daly, Anne and William Lavernoich, Mary and Chanel Bouchereau, Maureen Czerpak, Rosemary Thomas and numerous grand nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 9-10AM on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main Street, Agawam with a Mass of Christian Burial, to be celebrated at 11AM, at St. John the Evangelist Church, Agawam.
