July 1, 1948 ~ January 28, 2021 (age 72) 72 Years Old

Obituary

AGAWAM - James M. Scala, 72, passed away on January 28, 2021 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Springfield, MA on July 1, 1948, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Mary A. (Grasso) Scala. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from November, 1967 – November, 1971.  For 27 years, James had worked for the United States Postal Service at the Bulk Mail Center.
After retirement, James spent his days doing what he loved, which mainly involved watching sporting events, keeping up with the news, tracking weather, sharing stories of his time in the military, and being the local "neighborhood watchman."  He loved spending time outdoors, regardless of the season.  He would chat with passersby, give a wave in return of a car honk, and gladly pulled up a chair for those with more time to visit.  He loved making people laugh, and his family and friends will remember him fondly for that.
Predeceased by his father Salvatore, mother Mary (Grasso) Scala and sister Nanci J. Scala, he leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Jaime M. Scala and her partner Christopher Bernier of Agawam.
A service with military honors will be held at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam in the future.
Memorial donations may be made in care of Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home to Jaime M. Scala so she may make memorial gifts in her Father's memory. Please write the check directly to Jaime.
