Obituary

Agawam – James “Jim” Lewis, 76, beloved father, grandfather, and friend died on November 18, 2019 with his family and friends by his side. He was born in Holyoke on August 6, 1943 to the late Earl and Lillian (Quenneville) Lewis. Jim earned his GED while serving in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he joined the Agawam Police Force in 1971. He continued his education attending Springfield Technical Community College. Jim served the Town for 26 years as a patrolman and a detective. He was an extraordinarily kind and generous man who looked after everyone around him. His family and friends were the center of his life and the 4 pm daily meetings in his kitchen were well attended. Jim’s family is grateful for his end of life care given by his close friends, especially his former police partner Wayne Macey and caregiver Baffour “Bob” Ofori-Boamah. He leaves his loving daughter, Jamie Lewis of Wellfleet, MA; his grandchildren, Thomas James and Morgan Lily Johnson; his former son-in-law, Thomas H. Johnson of Eastham, MA; and his former wife, Phyllis Lewis of Ludlow. He also leaves a son Michael Kelly. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, November 21st from 11AM to 1PM at Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main St., Agawam followed by a funeral procession to the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery Chapel for Military Honors at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Trinity Health of New England at Home Hospice, 200 Hillside Cir Suite 107, West Springfield, MA 01089.
