AGAWAM – James O. Girard, 97, passed away on December 27, 2018 at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. Born in Montague, MA on May 27, 1921, he was the son of the late Rosaire and Malvina (LaPalme) Girard. From 1942 – 1946, James proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. during World War II. He then worked for 28 years for the Town of Agawam as a custodian in the school system. He was a former member of the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association, Agawam Custodians Association and was also a III and IV Degree Knight in the West Springfield Knights of Columbus. Besides his parents, James was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Evelyn L. (Lamoureux) Girard who passed away in 2008 as well as six siblings. He leaves his son Phillip J. Girard and his wife Kathleen of Southwick; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and his siblings Phillip and Alice Girard. Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 12 Noon – 1 PM at Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main Street, Agawam, MA with a service at 1 PM. Committal services and military honors will follow at 2 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
