Ida B. (Brewer) Newell, 90, of Palmer, formerly of East Longmeadow, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Palmer Health Care. Born in Springfield, MA on January 28, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Anson H. Brewer and Ida L. (Eddy) Newell. Ida grew up in Springfield and graduated from Commerce High School in 1944. She was the former President of the East Longmeadow Garden Club, a member of the Mary Ester Women’s’ Fellowship Group and the First Congregational Church in East Longmeadow. Among the other clubs she was involved with were the Scantic Valley Riding Club, a leader of the 4H Riding Club, and a Den Mother for Cub Scout Troop #179. Ida worked for Third National Bank and Shawmut Bank, both in Springfield before retiring in 1989. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Chandler W. Newell, Sr. in 2009. She is survived by her 2 sons, Chandler W. Newell, Jr. of Coral Springs, FL, Stephen E. Newell of West Springfield; 3 daughters, Elizabeth L. Newell-Hart and her husband Anthony Newell-Hart and family of Berkshire, England, Patricia E. Koon and her husband James of Palo Cedro, CA, and Christine N. Cerniglia and her husband Greg of Colchester, CT; 3 grandchildren, Brian Newell, Jeffery Newell, and Jacob Cerniglia; and her great-grandson, Cameron Newell. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother Charles B. Brewer in 2005. Her Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Burial will be held at the family’s convenience at Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Memorial donations in Ida’s name may be made to the First Congregational Church, 7 Somers Rd., East Longmeadow, MA 01028.
