Helen S. Popko

Agawam-Helen S. (Zych) Popko, 95, a resident of Agawam for 58 years,  passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2017, at her home ; surrounded by her loving daughters.  She was the wife of the late Albin Popko who predeceased her on December 21, 1998. Born in Ludlow, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Such) Zych. Helen retired from the Town of Agawam , where she was employed in the Collector’s Office. She loved to read, playing the card game “golf”, word puzzles and Chinese checkers. Helen also enjoyed crocheting , creating afghans and sweaters for family and friends.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her five sisters, Bertha Ceberek. Julia Twarog, Stella Zych, Anna Bania, and Josephine Jeserski. Helen is survived by her two devoted daughters and son in law, Eleanor Jean (Ron) of Feeding Hills , and Susan Popko who lovingly  took care of Helen in her final years. Helen is also survived by two grandchildren and their spouses, Alison Wais (Aaron) of Culver City, CA, Jason Jean (Desiree) of Longmeadow; five great grandchildren, Payton Wais , Piper Wais, Sadie Wais, Rylie Jean and Jackson Jean; nieces and nephews. To Helen, her family was everything to her. A very special thank you to Dawn for her caring and compassion in Helen’s final months.   Her family will gather from 10:00 AM until 11:30AM on Wednesday (Nov.8, 2017) and receive friends in the Colonial Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 985 Main St., Agawam. A funeral home ceremony will take place at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in Agawam Center Cemetery, Main Street, Agawam.
