Gladys A Agard

Gladys Arlene Halcup Agard passed away on January 5, 2022, at the age of 90 in Springfield, MA, her longtime home.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Gladys was happiest spending time with her family and friends, including her dinner group “BFFs”, her dear friend Evelyn, her kind and caring neighbors and her pal Pat. Gladys also loved the ocean and vacations at the beach, gardening and knitting. Her great-grandchildren cherish their “GG” blankets and her colorful knit hats have been donated as far as Asheville, N.C.

Gladys was born on June 23, 1931 to James Halcup and Alice Marie Thompson Halcup Battige. Together with her husband, Everett Joseph Agard, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and a lifelong carpenter, she had two children, Sharon and Michael.
After graduating from the High School of Commerce in 1949, Gladys worked at the Safe Deposit Bank, Cathedral High School and as a mortgage processor for SIS Bank. She was a member of the former Hope Congregational Church and Emmanuel United Church of Christ.

Gladys leaves her daughter Sharon Ehrlich and her husband David of Longmeadow and her son Michael Agard and his wife Donna of Downingtown, PA.  She will also be remembered by her seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A private service will be held at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home.  Friends and family are welcomed to join in celebration of Gladys and her life later this spring.
