Gina M. Madden

Springfield- Gina Maritana (Zanetti) Madden 62, wife of the late David J. Madden, died January 16, 2023.
Born in Springfield, she was a daughter of the late Alfred G. and Elizabeth A. (Perella) Zanetti. She was a resident of both Springfield and Chicopee.
Prior to her retirement, Gina was an early childhood teacher, specializing in special needs, employed by the Springfield Public School System. Most recently, she taught preschool at the Thomas M. Balliet School. Gina also worked at Antonio’s Grinders on State St. for many years.
Gina earned her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Westfield State, a Bachelor’s Degree from American International College, and an Associate’s Degree from STCC. Gina was a kind soul who could find good in anyone. She loved all her students, and the City of Springfield where she served for over 33 years. Gina loved the outdoors, most of all the beach where she collected shells and rocks. Gina treasured her backyard growing up, Forest Park. Her heart was larger than life.
Gina was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and she adored her grandson. She leaves her two sons, Anthony A. Madden and his fiancée Shannon Stevens of Westfield, MA, Christopher D. Madden and his fiancée Ariana Lenci of Wellesley, MA; a sister, Debra, predeceased by her husband Neil Hurd; two brothers, Michael Zanetti and sister –in- law, Dorothy Zanetti; Steven and his wife Marybeth Zanetti, her dear grandson David Scott Madden; along with nieces and nephews, many extended family members, friends, colleagues, and countless students on whose lives she made a tremendous impact.
Friends may join the family for visitation from 6:00-9:00PM on Monday January 23, 2023 at 220 North Main St., E. Longmeadow. Funeral services will begin Tuesday January 24, 2023 8:45AM from the funeral home. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 123 Williams St., Springfield. Gina will be laid to rest in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield.
