Gina M. Letellier
March 20, 1967 ~ May 9, 2022 (age 55) 55 Years Old
Agawam — Gina M. Letellier, 55, of Agawam, passed away on May 10, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. A family lawyer and an Agawam City Councilor for more than two decades, Gina found her greatest happiness in life as the mother to her son, Matthew, whom she called her "gift from God." Gina was born in Springfield to Walter T. and the late Maryanne (Maloni) Letellier in 1967. A lifelong resident of Agawam, Gina graduated from Agawam High School and Trinity College, Hartford, before attending Western New England University School of Law. She obtained her J.D. in 1993 and opened her own practice a few years later. She helped countless families through some of the most difficult times in their lives, fighting for parents and children like "a wolverine,” as one client put it.
Gina devoted much of her life to civic service. In addition to her 25 years on the Agawam City Council, where she served as president from 1999 to 2010, she was a member and leader of many local organizations, including the Agawam Rotary Club, serving as its president from 2011 to 2012, and as president of the board of directors for Parish Cupboard from 1999 to 2000. She was a volunteer attorney for the Massachusetts Justice Project and Habitat for Humanity, winning a Friend of Habitat award in 2008. She was the proud foster mother of Michael, whom she cherished, and the dedicated coach of Matthew's little league teams.
She loved the Beatles (mostly Paul McCartney), the Red Sox (win or lose), Cape Cod (the sound of the ocean and fried seafood), cooking, baking and holidays (especially her beloved mother's Italian recipes and Christmas), and taking trips to Florida, California and Maine with Matthew. Family was everything to her, and she was always happy to bring a young cousin to Disney World, one of her favorite places. In addition to Matthew, she leaves behind her father, W. Terry, her sister, Christina M. Letellier, Christina’s longtime partner John Flanagan, aunts and uncles, and a giant bunch of cousins and friends who all loved her so much.
To remember Gina, visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2002, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Colonial Forastiere Funeral & Cremation at 985 Main Street in Agawam. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 12:15 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Feeding Hills. A burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery in Springfield. Donations may be made in memory of Gina and her love for her son at Memorial Fune for Matthew Letellier c/o Easthampton Savings Bank, 770 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
