Geraldine “Gerry” Eberle Zobel was born on February 14, 1936 - a true Valentine. She was born and raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York. Gerry was the daughter of Dorothy Dunne and George Eberle and had two sisters, Patricia Miller and Ursula Olsen. Gerry leaves her devoted husband of 62 years, Ernst (Ernie) Zobel, pharmaceutical executive, and over the years, they lived in Brooklyn NY, Breezy Point NY, Cleveland OH, Larchmont NY, and Longmeadow MA. Gerry was the mother of six children: Jeanne Lachiusa and her husband Tom of Longmeadow, MA, Suzanne Zobel of Jamaica Plains, MA, Elizabeth Zobel and her husband Eric Summers of Brookline, MA, Christopher Zobel and his wife Katie Allan Zobel of Amhurst, MA, Daniel Zobel and his wife Julie Fender Zobel of Northfield, MA, and Jonathan Zobel and his wife Patricia of Larchmont, NY; and grandmother to twelve: Matthew, Elizabeth, Kristiana, Sarah, Mariana, Nikolas, Noah, Emily, Sydney, Colleen, Grant and Claire. In addition to her beloved family, Gerry leaves behind many cherished friends; in particular, her childhood dearest friend Jeanne O’Brien Weigel of Tampa, FL. Gerry graduated in 1954 from Fontbonne Hall Academy and completed the New York Foundling Hospital Program of Childhood Nursing - Sisters of Charity. For twenty years, Gerry was a beloved pre-school teacher at Rye Presbyterian nursery school, Rye NY. Her special place was Wellfleet, Cape Cod. Gerry was a natural artist, creating through drawing, knitting, and her most loved art, weaving, including at Marrymount School in Tarrytown NY. Her favorite morning was spent on her bike, riding to the shore of Long Island Sound, and then to her meditation and friends at St. Augustine’s Church in Larchmont. For Gerry, family gatherings, holidays, and especially Christmas, were her hallmarks. Gerry was born in a blizzard and died on July 22 with a spectacular dawn. She was our heart and soul. “God and the fairies be true, be true, she was the girl who believed in you”. Thank you Gerry for bringing fairies, fireflies, and lavender into our lives.
