Gerald "Jerry" M. Monette

April 28, 1949 ~ February 2, 2024 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Obituary

Gerald “Jerry” M. Monette, 74, sadly passed away unexpectedly at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Ludlow, Jerry was one of thirteen children of Irene (Dobek) and Otis Monette. He was a graduate of Springfield Trade High School and was a life-long resident of Springfield. He was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Army for six years. Upon returning from the military, Jerry began his craft of being a Finish Carpenter/Contractor. He helped many people over the years with numerous projects; he was quite the handy man. He found solitude in the beach, Cape Cod and Rhode Island; where he enjoyed countless hours with his family. Jerry had a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles and loved to ride. He had a love for music and playing the drums, a passion he shared with his son Jeremy; and in his younger years, he was a drummer in a band. Being a man who loved to laugh, and have a good time, Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He will not only be remembered for his big heart and being the life of the party, but also as the “Toys R Us Kid,” a name given to him by his granddaughter Ryleigh, as that is just what he was, a big kid; and “Betty” to all that knew his love for baking.

He is survived by his wife, Martha “Marty” (Steele) Monette of Springfield; his children, Jenn White and her husband Mike of East Longmeadow, Lesley Colby and her husband Nate of Springfield; Jeremy Monette of Pensacola FL, Gigi Burns, and Patty Ramos; his cherished grandchildren, Haley and Ryleigh White, Carissa Pereira, Leanne and Kayla Colby, Evelyn Monette, Zachary and Chelsea Ramos; his siblings, Cheryl Monette, Darlene Stevens (Bill), Debbie McNeil, Gail Monette, Kim Monette (Doug), Pam Ryan (Billy), Tammy Patrie (Brian), Denise Mackenzie, Mark Monette (Barbara), Jeff Monette, Scott Monette (Tina), and Gary Monette (Kathy); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his sister-in-law Cheryl Monette, brother-in-law Dan Mackenzie, and his former wife Sharyn (Soffan) Monette Shofner.

To honor and celebrate Jerry’s life, friends and family are invited to gather Wednesday, February 14th for visiting hours from 10:00-12:00pm at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation in East Longmeadow, with 12:00pm Celebration of Life Ceremony.
