Obituary

SOUTHWICK – George O. Hiersche, 93, of Southwick, MA and formerly of Ludlow, MA passed away peacefully on October 27, 2018. Born in Ludlow on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1924 to the late Albert and Pearl (Goodell) Hiersche, he graduated from Springfield Trade School. From 1943 – 1946, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
George was employed as a painter and paper hanger and then at Rexham in Westfield, MA where he was a printer until he retired. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with the love of his life, his wife Lucille. They enjoyed gardening, square dancing, making jigsaw puzzles and vacationing at the Cape. After his move to Southwick, he enjoyed the company of new friends in the “breakfast club” and at the Southwick and Agawam Senior Centers where he continued to enjoy making jigsaw puzzles.
Predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Lucille (Gaudreau) Hiersche, he was her devoted caregiver for many years prior to her passing in 2013. Also predeceased by his brother Dexter Hiersche and his sister Winnifred Kiesman, he leaves to cherish his memory his two daughters Shelly Bayton and her husband William of Southwick and Karen Bognar and her husband Richard of Torrington, CT; grandsons Kenneth Piazza and his wife Mia and Anthony Piazza and his wife Trina; six great grandchildren; sisters Ida Long of PA and Erna Manchester of NY as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to gather for calling hours on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 4-7 PM at the Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick, MA. Burial will be private.
